What is Freezing, Sliding and Floating options in CCMT?
Let me tell you all these terms are easy to understand. We will tackle one by one as to how they work.
Freezing
This option must be used when the allotted college is the preferred college and branch that you want. You are satisfied with the college and branch that is allotted to you and you do not wish to further part take in the subsequent rounds, you use this option.
Suppose you are allotted a college like NIT Trichy for Design Engg in the first round itself, and if it is your preferred choice then you can freeze your allotment. You will NOT be allowed to take part in susequent rounds after using this option.
Now another time freezing option will be automatically selected is if in the any of the rounds, you are allotted the first option in your choices of colleges. Then your allotment will be automatically forzen as there is no further choice for betterment.
So be careful when filling your choices.
Sliding
Sliding option is used when you are allotted a college and a branch, and you wish for better branch allotment but in the same college.
Suppose you are allotted NIT Trichy for manufacturing engg in first round, which is at 10th position in your preferred choices.
You can accept the seat and use the sliding option and the options above i.e (1st to 9th) will be open for you. You will be eligible for allotment in the choices (1st to 9th) but only for NIT Trichy and not any institute.
This will work only if you have better choices of the same college above your allotment.

NIT Trichy manufacturing allotted in first round, NIT Trichy (Design and Thermal) available after selecting sliding option. Others are not available.
If there is no choice of the same institute above your allotment, then this option will not be available.
Floating
This option can be used when you are allotted a certain college and branch in first or second round, and you wish for better allotment in any of the remaining choices then you can avail this option.
Suppose you are allotted NIT Trichy for manufacturing engg in first round, which is at 10th position in your preferred choices.
You can accept the seat and use the floating option and the options above i.e (1st to 9th) will still be open for you. You will be eligible for allotment in the choices (1st to 9th) irrespective of any college and branch.

NIT Trichy manufacturing allotted in first round, the options above them are available for next round. Options below NIT Trichy manufacturing not available.
Keep in mind that once a seat is allotted to you in any college at any preference, then the colleges below the allotted seat stand cancelled. That means you won’t be allotted a seat in those colleges. So be careful when listing your preferences.
GATE Document Verification
After the first time seat allotment in any round, document verification is conducted. In this round, candidates have to attend the Counselling/ Helpline Centers for document verification. Applicants have to attend for this GATE Counselling Process.
